This is general product information, not medical advice, and not a health claim of any kind. We do not tell customers that kratom treats, cures, or improves any condition. You must be 21+ to purchase kratom at Sam's, and we ID every customer.

Kratom is one of those products people either know well or know nothing about. If you're in the second group and curious, here's a no-nonsense primer on the vocabulary — so you can walk in, ask good questions, and not feel lost at the counter.

What it is (and what we won't say)

Kratom comes from the leaves of a Southeast Asian tree (Mitragyna speciosa). Beyond that, here's our rule: we don't make health claims. We won't tell you what it does for your body, what it's "good for," or that it helps with anything. Anyone who does is crossing a line we won't cross. What we can do is explain the products so you know what you're looking at.

Strains — it's mostly about the "vein color"

Kratom is commonly sorted by the color of the leaf vein, which reflects how it was harvested and processed. You'll see three main labels:

  • Red vein — the most common starting point people ask about.
  • Green vein — often described as a middle-ground option.
  • White vein — the third common category.

You'll also see region names like Maeng Da, Bali, or Borneo. These are traditional/marketing labels for the source or processing style, not strict scientific categories. The honest truth: labeling varies between brands, which is exactly why buying from a shop that sources carefully matters.

Forms

This is the practical part — what you actually buy:

  • Powder — the most traditional form. Most flexible, usually the best value per gram, but you have to measure it yourself.
  • Capsules — pre-measured and convenient, easier to dose consistently, a bit more expensive per gram for that convenience.
  • Extracts — concentrated products. These are stronger and meant for experienced users, not beginners. If you're new, this is not where to start.

What to ask for at the counter

Walk up and say something like:

  • "I'm new — what's a good beginner-friendly powder or capsule?"
  • "Can I see the lab testing on this?" A reputable product should have a current COA (certificate of analysis).
  • "What's the difference between these two brands you carry?"

Those three questions will get you further than any strain name. We're happy to talk through the lineup.

Buying smart

  • Look for lab-tested product with clear labeling and a brand that stands behind it. Quality and purity vary a lot in this category, so this matters.
  • Start low. Whatever form you choose, less is the smart starting point. You can always have more next time; you can't undo too much.
  • Store it sealed, cool, and dry, away from kids and pets.
  • Don't mix it with alcohol or other substances, and don't drive until you know how something affects you.
