What this project is

How cigar humidor humidity actually works.

Cigar storage comes down to one number: 65–70% relative humidity, at room temperature around 70°F. That's the window our shop humidor holds, and it's what keeps a cigar's oils and burn behavior intact. Too dry and the stick burns hot, fast and bitter; too wet and it draws tight, burns unevenly, and risks mold. If your cigars at home taste worse than they did the week you bought them, storage is almost always the culprit.

The good news is home storage is cheap now. For a few sticks a month, a sealed food container with a Boveda two-way humidity pack — the "tupperdor" — genuinely works. Step up to a desktop humidor with a digital hygrometer if you keep a couple boxes around. We sell humidors, Boveda packs in 65% and 69%, and hygrometers, and we'll size the setup to how many cigars you actually keep.

What Ryan watches for

The execution details that decide outcome.

  • Calibrate the hygrometer — cheap analog ones can read 10+ points off, which defeats the purpose.

  • Season a new wooden humidor before loading it, or it'll pull moisture out of your cigars for weeks.

  • Swap Boveda packs when they go rigid; a hard pack is a spent pack.

  • Keep the humidor out of sun and away from AC vents — temperature swings undo good humidity.
